Andre Cole - Writer/Producer/Director
Andre Cole owes his filmmaking taste to two divergent experiences in his early life. His first memory of seeing a film was as a toddler in a large movie theater in his hometown of Queens, New York where the spaceships of “Star Wars” ushered in the blockbuster age and ignited his imagination. Then one night in a smoky movie theater across town in Rochdale Village, he sat crying and begging to leave as John Travolta danced spastically to disco hits in “Saturday Night Fever”. How do you go from Luke Skywalker to Tony Manero? “You don’t. It was disturbing.” He says.
The 30+ filmmaker, producer, critic and all around cinefile, graduated from Syracuse University with a degree in African American Studies and won the school’s Fanny Lou Hamer Award for Community Service. Andre, a self-described night owl, considers Hamer’s quote “I’m sick and tired of being sick and tired” a personal motto.
Cole has worked throughout the film and television industry both in independent film production as well as for MTV and BET. He spends what little free time he has writing, watching films and producing his latest film projects, which do not include spastically dancing men in white suits.
